Pills and Gimmicks Don’t Help You Lose Weight

A quick channel surf on the TV yesterday brought up two infomercials pushing their “miracle” weight loss supplements. Both listed vitamins, herbs and minerals that “guaranteed” success. Right. Even though I’ve been pretty successful in my own weight loss program for the last six months, (29 lbs) I was honestly tempted to call the toll free numbers. And I know better. The wish for an easy and quick solution is still pretty strong.
I’ve also spent much of those six months scouring weight loss research looking for information about what works and what doesn’t for permanent weight loss. The focus here is on the word permanent. We all know that it’s relatively easy to lose a few pounds quickly. Want to drop 7 pounds so you can fit into that swim suit for your vacation? That’s not an unreasonable goal to reach in 4-6 weeks. Ah, but keeping that 7 pounds off is the problem, isn’t it? That just doesn’t happen seem to happen.
Simply put, there are no safe and effective pills or potions for losing weight. That’s the conclusion reached by researchers from three British universities. But, we’d already found that out ourselves, hadn’t we?
